Port Regis mural design
Pencil, sepia ink and watercolour
This sketch for a mural design shows Roman scenes of sport, warfare, authority (a litter-borne emperor) and religion. Rex was approached by Howard Evans, the headmaster of Port Regis Preparatory School, to paint panels for four classrooms: Classics, French, English and History/Geography. The scheme was abandoned but this sketch for the Classics room, which was to be divided between four Greek and four Roman panels survives.
